Have you ever wondered who the prominent figure Jesus Christ is? And along with that, have you ever really considered why he is deemed so important to billions of people's lives all across the globe that bear the name Catholic or Christian?
Well, thats exactly what we are going to be exploring with you here in this short blog so stay tuned!
Who is Jesus? - Some Background Information.
So first of all, who is Jesus Christ? Well to begin with Jesus was a Jewish man who was born in Bethlehem of Judea and grew up in Nazareth in Galilee, which are two places both in the nation of Israel.
Jesus was a carpenter by trade along with his father Joseph up until he was about 30 years of age living as it seemed as any regular man of his day. But in the last 3 years or so of his life, his life mission became starkly differently, where now knew it was his time...the time that God had been preparing him for. In this short but profound period of time he taught many people in nearby townships about many unknown truths, he also preached about sin, eternity, the kingdom of heaven dwelling in us, he performed miracles and much more! He lived no ordinary human life thats for sure!
With this he also made claims that he was The Son of God, the one who was promised as the messiah spoken about in the old testament from The Holy Scriptures and who is one with God. He was also supernaturally conceived and born by his mother Mary around the years 6/4 BC. He lived on Earth for approximately 33 years and died a horrific death being crucified on a cross for opposing the ways of the Jewish authorities. He also was proved to resurrect from his grave 3 days after his crucifixion, where he was resurrected body and soul.
After this, he ascended into heaven, which is where he is today at the right hand of God The Father.
Jesus is the central figure of Christianity today, where is has been identified as the founder and head of what is now called The Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. An insight into Jesus' life, message, and ministry are documented in the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) of the New Testament in the Christian Bible. Here we thoroughly learn all the ins and outs of who Jesus was, what he came to accomplish and what he means for us today.
So why is he so important? - His Life, Ministry & Main Message:
The early years of Jesus' as was said earlier were as ordinary as any other Jewish child's life growing up in ancient Israel as the gospels state, although he and his parents Mary and Joseph knew he had a mission from God even was since the time he was conceived, and this was kept hidden to the world until Jesus began his ministry. when he was around 30 years The fullness of his ministry began once he was baptised by his cousin John the Baptist. From there, as was also said earlier...Jesus' mission involved mostly preaching about the truths of the kingdom of heaven, performing miracles, teaching about sin and more.
But the most important thing Jesus came to do during his ministry was something that had to occur at the end of his life on Earth... and that was to lay himself down as a sacrifice for all humanity and to establish his church which would endure throughout all generations.
His sacrifice and death became worthy atonement for the sins of humanity so that we could be given eternal life and that we could be saved from hell. This was the pact he made with God as he was establishing a 'new covenant during his last supper and on the cross and God accepted it. Although that being said this act from Jesus will not automatically be granted to every person on Earth, we must respond in faith from the cross.
This incredible sacrifice Jesus made for us is only granted to us when we CHANGE OUR LIVES BECAUSE OF IT...we must first admit we are sinners in need of a saviour so we humble ourselves to live his will as our God. The next part of our salvation journey must begin with recognising what sent Jesus to the cross...our sins... and so we must confess and forsake our sins to live a new life for God from here. After this, our lives should be filled with fervent dialogue with God particularly through prayer, by regularly partaking in the sacraments of the church and also by doing fruitful things for God out of our love for him for the most part. Unless a person responds to the cross by living out the faith he command of us...we will most likely miss the mark. To not change our lives after seeing Jesus' cross would be abusing God's merciful act...we must believe in everything he has commanded us to do after knowing his cross.
So with all that being said, the main thing we can take away in hearing all of this is that Jesus was not any regular person and this is because he was no regular person! He was in fact God and yet also fully man too. Everything he has taught us is worth trusting and there was a reason he came for us!
Hopefully this short blog helped you gain some greater understandings about who Jesus was, still is, and what his significance means to us today. This blog is just a brief summary of who Jesus is and what he came to do but believe me there is much greater detail out there in some incredible sources out there in The Catholic Church such as The Holy Bible most particularly, so get reading quickly! I'm sure that the very fact that you are here reading this today is a sign you are already being blessed by God, so keep striving to do his will and he will reward you!
Until next time, God bless, love and keep you!
